“How I Met Your Mother” star Jason Segel has said he’d love to make a movie with Hillary Clinton, but that’s not happening anytime soon.
On “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” last week, Segel said he got “a rejection letter” from the secretary of state…

I feel like I’ve been telling people just how cool Hilldawg is for years, and now everyone loves her.
I am a Hillary Clinton hipster.

“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that “my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.” — Issac Asimov (via askjerves)

“A sermon wants to change your life, and a lecture wants to give you a bit of information. And I think we need to get back to that sermon tradition.” — Religion for Atheist – Alain de Botton on what secular movements like education and the arts can learn from the ritual and delivery formats of religion. Taking A Stand Against Girl Scouts of the Day: An Indiana state House rep has caused a stir for refusing to sign a resolution honoring the Girl Scouts on the occasion of the youth organization’s 100th anniversary.
In a letter to his colleagues, Rep. Bob Morris (R-Fort Wayne) urged the House to rethink its endorsement of a group he says promotes abortion, homosexuality, and the sexualization of young girls.
Rep. Morris claims that “evidence” he found online led him to conclude that the Girl Scouts “is quickly becoming a tactical arm of Planned Parenthood,” and warns of “liberal progressive troop-leaders” who will “indoctrinate the girls in their troop according to the principles of Planned Parenthood.”
He goes on to excoriate the Girl Scouts for promoting “homosexual lifestyles” and allowing “‘transgender’ or cross-dressing” boys to join troops “just like any real girl.”
Finally, he takes issue with an alleged list of Girl Scout role models, which he claims are mostly “feminists, lesbians, or Communists,” excepting three with “a briefly-mentioned religious background.”
Morris closes by saying that in light of what he’s learned, and the fact that First Lady Michelle Obama is the Honorary President of Girl Scouts of America, he will be pulling his two daughters out of the local Girl Scouts troop, and signing them up for Little Flowers, the American Heritage Girls’ “traditional” alternative, where “they will learn about values and principles that will not confuse their conservative Hoosier upbringing.”
Morris is the only member of the Indiana state House who hasn’t signed the nonbinding Girl Scouts centennial resolution, but several other House Republicans will reportedly be taking their signatures back.
For its part, Girl Scouts of the USA has released statement denying the lawmaker’s allegations, particularly those concerning pamphlets supposedly distributed to troopers that say “there is no right or wrong way to have sex.”
A spokeswoman for the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana said GSUSA is aware of websites devoted to “exposing” the organization, but they have not impacted membership or cookie sales.

Komen apologizes for 'recent decisions,' pledges to continue funding Planned Parenthood -

“We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives.

The events of this week have been deeply unsettling for our supporters, partners and friends and all of us at Susan G. Komen. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.

Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation. We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair. […]

We extend our deepest thanks for the outpouring of support we have received from so many in the past few days and we sincerely hope that these changes will be welcomed by those who have expressed their concern.”

It wasn’t until today that I realized the sad truth. The rich don’t want the poor to no longer be poor… In fact they want more people to be poor.

“7. Though on the surface, they are the exact same thing in every conceivable way, whether you liked The Backstreet Boys or N*SYNC said more about your character than all of the terrible macaroni art you could ever make for your child psychologist. Essentially, liking *NSYNC meant you liked Justin Timberlake, as he was clearly the Seabiscuit in that race from the get-go. You even liked him with his terrible, icy-blond mini-fro. Liking the Backstreet Boys gave you a bit more of a cultured palate, as there was no clear Diana in those Supremes. Nick was kind of the wholesome, if northern-Florida-redneck safe choice (save for his humiliating younger brother, Aaron). Brian was the shy, sensitive type. AJ was the hottt, dangerous meth addict. Kevin Richardson was mute with sexy, sculpted facial hair. No one liked Howie. Choosing between the two groups was like choosing between two beloved children, but once that line was crossed–there was no going back.” —

Yeah, I NEVER got the Lisa Frank love. *hums Men In Black theme song* — Tanya

Robert Reich: Stock Tip: Be Worried. Workers are Consumers. -

robertreich:

Repeat after me: Workers are consumers. Consumers are workers.

We’re slouching toward a double dip, and the stock market is imploding, because consumers – whose spending is 70 percent of the economy – have reached their limit.

It’s not just the jobless who can’t spend. It’s mainly people with…

This is something that I was trying to explain to people for several years now. It’s so simple, I don’t understand why people don’t get it.
